You know...sometimes, what you need in life is a weekend away. You don't realize it until you're gone just how much. This, was such a weekend.
This past weekend, WHF and I took a trek up to Chicago. Basically, it was a cheap trip as all we really had to pay for was gas money, since our hotel stay (thank you to WHF's job) and our Six Flags season passes took care of the rest. (We get in for free then at any Six Flags theme park throughout the country...and can you believe that a one day ticket in Chicago is the cost of our season pass here?!)
Anyway, so we left on Friday afternoon/early evening. WHF drove b/c I didn't feel like driving the whole way there. We were gonna leave earlier in the afternoon, but WHF didn't get home in time. So, by the time we were on the road it was like 6:00 pm. We had good time up to Chicago though...only took us 5 hours...then we hit the construction that always seems to be happening. Finally, we got to our hotel, a place we've stayed before and is relatively nice.
So Saturday, we decided to sleep in b/c we'd both gotten up so early that past week. We got to Six Flags around 1 pm. (Although we would have gotten there earlier if WHF hadn't forgotten to bring shirts with him...men...)
We rode most of the big coasters. Iron Wolf, which is a stand up coaster and Raging Bull, their big grandaddy coaster are probably two of my favorites from the day. When we came into the park that day, we found out they had a new coaster they had just built. It was a family style coaster that was all indoors and themed around The Dark Knight movie. Oh and it had humongous waits the entire day.
Finally, we decided to buck it up and wait in line. It was a really, really long wait. One hour and a half later, we were finally through the automatic door when...wait...where's the coaster? Well, this is weird for a Six Flags theme park...it's a preshow. And it's an interesting one on top of it. Finally we got to the ride and it was neat, not worth an hour and a half wait, but cool none the less. I'd do it again when the lines die down. I do have to admit though...this is one of the closest attraction to a Disney attraction that Six Flags has ever done. Once you got through the doors, it was very themed, especially for a Six Flags park.
After that, we couldn't take anymore lines, so we left for the day and went back to the hotel to get in the hot tub. After "relaxing" there for a bit (the best you can with a group of 13 year old soccer girls all around us yelling and screaming) we just hung out around the hotel lobby. I got a cookie and WHF got a beer and we just relaxed. Finally, we went to bed early.
The next day, we went back to Six Flags...since we could for free. We went with the sole purpose to ride Superman...a ride in which you fly like Superman, facing the ground. It's an intense ride and it scares the bejesus out of me every time I get on it. So, we did that and a few other coasters and finally it was time to go home. But not before we had dinner.
For dinner, we went to Giordano's...one of the best Chicago pizza places. They have amazing pizza and pretty darn good mozzarella sticks!!!
After that...it was the nice 5 hour trek back home.
It really was nice to be able to take that short trip, but it just reminded me how much I need a real vacation. Staying in the hotel and everything got me so jazzed up about our trip next month. I really, really can't wait!
