2008--A Year In Review

This is something my friend K puts on her blog every year at the end of the year and I wanted to steal it. lol!

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Started a WDW podcast...something I've always been wanting to do, but never pulled the trigger on...

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Gonna go with no...although I don't typically make resolutions, I'm thinking I made one to work out more last year...I started the year strong, but it slowly fizzled to nothing again.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My SIL had my beautiful niece. :)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no

5. What countries did you visit?
All the ones at Epcot.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Hmmm...this one's a hard one...I guess Oct. 15...which is the day I got my first ever niece.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I have two...doing the podcast and keeping up with this blog, relatively speaking. I usually don't do well with this diary type thing, so I didn't know how well I'd do with it. Oh...and one more...throwing a baby shower for my SIL...it was my first big shindig!

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think I have any...and if I did, I'd hope I could see it as a learning experience, than anything else.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Well, there was that awful disease I got when I got back from Disney...and the awful sinus infection I had...but other that that...the normal stuff...colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

WHF's AP...since he bought mine. Oh and my new kitchen table.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My husband. Just about everyday, he does something to remind me of why I fell in love with him all over again. Whether it's a sweet gesture or doing mundane stuff like helping with the dishes or the laundry...he really is amazing to me.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Well, it isn't one who appalled me, but my mom has kind of made me depressed this year. Since the property she has had for sale for 2 years hasn't sold yet...but I'm hoping that soon that will turn around...we're getting closer, I can feel it. And maybe then she'll be happy again, which will make me a tad happier.

14. Where did most of your money go?
bills, mortgage, and vacations

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Mousefest for the first time.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Hmmm...All Summer Long by Kid Rock...they played that thing everywhere I turned this year!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
The same, I guess.

18. Thinner or fatter?
Um...I think heavier...unfortunately, but only by a few pounds.

19. Richer or poorer?
Either about the same or poorer, the jury's still out.

20. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Um...nothing, I think I'm pretty happy with how this year's turned out.

21. What do you wish you'd done less of?
As I'd mentioned, I'm pretty happy with this year...if I had to choose something though, I think it would have been spend less money...

22. How will you be spending Christmas?
Well, we already did that...

23. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I do more so every day

24. Any one night stands?
Wouldn't you like to know...lol!

25. What was your favorite TV program?
How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. Oh, and I still love Two and a Half Men and Law & Order: SVU

26. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not that I can think of...

27. What was the best book you read?
Ironically, I didn't really read any books this year I hadn't read already. I did re-read Harry Potter, the whole series and found a new appreciation for Deathly Hallows...I liked it much better this second time.

28. What was your greatest musical discovery?
nothing really...I've been listening to Disney podcasts more than ever actually.

29. What did you want and get?

An AP to Disney World

30. What did you want and not get?
I guess my parent's to sell the house.

31. What was your favorite film of this year?
Um...I honestly don't know...I don't think I have one.

32. What did you do on your birthday?
Went to Six Flags with my besties.

33. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Podcasting. It's allowed me to meet some new people whom I consider as close as family now and it's allowed me to meet people from all over the country who took time out of their vacations to want to come talk to me...little old me! Who'da thunk it?

34. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
A little more American Eagle...I've found a love for the store now...

35. What kept you sane?
WHF...he's always been my rock on that.

36. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
It's the same as it's been...Justin Timberlake...hands down.

37. What political issue stirred you the most?
How could I not say the election?

38. Who did you miss?
old friends

39. Who was the best new person you met?
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet a ton of new people this year! It really was great. I will have to say it was pretty great though meeting Anastasia and my neice Katie. Those two get very special nods. :)

40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
That everything will be ok in the end...and if it's not ok, it's not the end. (I got this from my friend Steph...so, if I got it wrong by a smidge, I'm sorry...)

Oh...and also, thanks to being around children this year...yeah, I learned I'm not ready for kids yet. I'm still too selfish...which sounds like a bad thing...but truthfully I think it's good b/c it's good to know I'm not ready to have children at this moment in time...I learned how much of a commitment it truly is and I want to be ready to give it my all...something I'm definitely glad I learned by watching and didn't learn by having to live it first hand yet.

41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I kissed a girl and I liked it...

Just kidding...

Honestly, I can't think of one right now...it's been a whirlwind of a year...too many different possiblities.

One Heck of a Month--Katie's Baptism

So, continuing tying up some loose ends...Sunday was my niece's baptism.

It was my first baptism ever...and I thought it was very nice. Luckily, I took a ton of pics, so you don't have to hear me yammer on about it. lol!!

One Heck of a Month--Christmas

It has been one whirlwind of a month...I can't believe it's almost over. I mean wow...that went quickly! So, I guess it's time to tie up some loose ends.

Christmas, I personally thought was going to be a DISASTER!!!! I had to go to my grandma's this year on Christmas eve...which really threw a wrench in my Christmas. In the past few years, we've had Christmas pretty much whenever, but no...not this year...my aunt had Christmas eve off, so we had to do it that day. No budging on that. So, off we went to my Grandma's.

So, b/c of the rigidness of that, my Christmas with my family and WHF's family was really going to be messed up. But I'd come up with a plan. We'd do Christmas with my family in the morning and then go do Christmas with WHF's family that night, since my SIL had to work.

Well, another wrench got thrown in...WHF's grandparents had a problem a few days before, so WHF's dad had to rush up here, (a two hour drive) b/c he thought he was going to have to take Poppy to the hospital. Luckily, all ended up being fine...but, b/c of this, Christmas was now in the air b/c my FIL didn't want to drive back 2 hours and come back 2 days later.

Luckily we managed to figure everything out...so what happened was my family went to my grandma's house Christmas Eve...then we simply decided to open Christmas presents that night, esp. since my brother's boyfriend could make it that night.

So on Christmas Day, I got to take that morning easy and then WHF's family (minus my SIL, but my BIL did bring the baby) and I all went to the casino for lunch. It was a very relaxing time. The boys went and gambled and WHF's mom and I took the baby to the hotel lobby and sat by the fireplace and the big Christmas tree and watched Katie. It was so nice for us to get that quality time in with her.

Then we headed over to visit WHF's grandparents...and stayed there for about an hour.

Then we had to leave to go to dinner with my family. And since the night before my dad had bought a Wii for the whole family, we played Wii the rest of the night, which was a blast!

It really was a good Christmas...it was filled with lots of quality family time, which is what the holidays are about. I was just surprised with how smooth it really all went. Especially considering how frantic I'd felt about it the days leading up to it.

Sick

I am officially back from Florida and what happens to me every time I go on vacation...I got sick.

Warning...this could be a bit of a gross story...so I don't know why I'm typing it out. lol!

Luckily my illness had managed to wait until the very last day of my vacation...but still...why must I always feel badly when I get back from vacation?

I was doing fine too in the morning. I'd felt a little queasy, and almost threw up once, but didn't and made my way to the Magic Kingdom. Went on some rides, then went back to the hotel b/c we had to be out of there by 2:30...as that was what time Magical Express was picking us up.

My mom and I decided to go to Downtown Disney to shop for a bit...which was nice. Until I started feeling worse.

Luckily, I made it back to the resort. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be long until things changed.

As we were waiting for the Magical Express bus, I had a nice protein spill. I'll never look the same way at a plastic Mickey shopping bag again.

The unfortunate part...it had been somewhere in the vicinity of 7-10 years since I'd thrown up. I made up for that though through the course of the night.

As we rode on the bus, I was still feeling not so well. As the bus stopped at the airport, I had to get off immediately. The bus driver said that we needed to wait 5 minutes before we all got off the bus...I quickly exclaimed why I needed off. No one seemed to have any arguments. Luckily, there was a trash can nearby. :(

The good news was that my mom then got me a wheelchair, so I got first class treatment all through the airport. I got checked in easily, got through security easily, got to pre-board...everything.

I had some Pepto chewables before I boarded the plane...and was able to get some sleep. I got home with little problem.

Unfortunately, I threw up quite a few more times last night. Guess I made up for all those years I hadn't thrown up. lol!

I'm still feeling a bit queasy. I haven't had too much of an appetite and now that I am hungry, nothing sounds even remotely good to eat.

Here's my tip though...never get the chocolate mousse cake from Norway at Epcot. There had to be something wrong with it...as that was the only thing I ate that day that no one else had too.

I'm hoping I feel better soon though. Nothing is worse than queasy all day. :(

Oh and Kitty News

So, I forgot to talk about the news I had about the kitty.

She's still here. She has become a work cat. She'll go outside during the day and then come back up when she's hungry. Then she goes back outside until I attempt to call her in for the night. (Which sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.)

So, I guess I didn't have to say good bye...she never left. :)

One Day to Go!

Well, I'm pretty much all packed...I'm checked in to Southwest...got good boarding position...Group A, numbers 34 and 35, and now...all that's left is the wait. That's right...waiting those last few hours before your trip finally starts. That is the hardest part about a vacation. It's when you know you're so close...yet you still have so far to go.

I'm so super excited about this trip though. I honestly don't know when I'll have time to sleep. It definitely won't be tonight...I have to get up at 4 am to be at the airport by 5:30 for our 7 am flight. I will be sleeping on the plane. Why did I punish myself with a 7 am flight?!

Then I'll have to get up early for all the Mousefest events...you know it's always a Disney joke that you'll need a vacation after your Disney Vacation...trust me...on this trip, I think it's going to be true.

Oh and the weather, it is supposed to be AMAZING! Highs mostly in the 70s...with a day of 80s and a day of 60s thrown in. Who could ask for more, considering it's going to be in the 20s when I leave home.

Anyway...I'll see you all when I get back from Sunny, Beautiful, Warm (no snow there!) Florida! I can't wait!

Randomness

Here are some random things that have been going on as of recently...

First...I let the kitty go today. I think it was for her own good. She seemed super excited about being outside. I guess she was an outdoor cat after all. Maybe she'll stick around in the area and I'll still feed her and such. But I am noticing I'm worrying a lot less here now. I feel much more calm now that she's gone. I'll miss her...but after a few tears, I'm ok with things.

Next, I only have a week left until I leave for Florida! I'm so excited. It's so cool to get to go down for Mousefest and during the holidays. I also can't wait to show my mom around again. She's gonna love it, I know.

WHF had a good birthday. We went over to my parent's house and had Thanksgiving there. It was nice getting to celebrate two things. And the meal was pretty good too. :) I think he enjoyed is time there, even if all he did was watch TV with my dad. It made him happy.

Finally...I've got my house all decorated for the season. It looks so good. The tree's up, the table's decorated...I even put decorations up in the kitchen, which look really nice. Now all I need are some presents to go under the tree...who wants to give me some?! lol!
