So, I know this is kind of late, but Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends!
I had a nice day today. WHF's family and I did something, for many, quite unconventional for Thanksgiving this year. What was it? We had dinner at the casino.
This was my brilliant idea. Since WHF's parents live 2 and a half hours away, his grandmother doesn't need to be cooking or doing dishes, his uncle REALLY doesn't need to be cooking and I wouldn't know what to do with a turkey if you paid me...I decided that going to the casino for dinner was the best option.
Now, this did come with a tiny fight. WHF's grandma (Hi) didn't take to the idea originally. But finally, thanks to the work of WHF and his grandfather (Poppy), dinner at the casino was on. (WHF's mother loved the idea! She was totally on board, claiming she would have spent the same amount on groceries and this meant it was just all done and over with, no fuss.)
Today turned out lovely though. I believe both Hi and Poppy had a great time and really ended up enjoying not having to stress about the day. WHF, his mom, and I all waited in line to get a table and then once the rest of our party showed up, we walked right in, because our time had been up for a while.
It was also great because there was something for everyone. I'm not a big turkey eater, so I ended up having prime rib, WHF had salmon...it was great because everybody really could just get what they wanted and nobody felt obligated to eat something they didn't want just because somebody made it and it would hurt feelings if it wasn't eaten.
I also really enjoyed today because I got to bond a bit with Poppy, something I haven't really ever gotten to do. I helped walk with him into the casino and helped him get his food. Then when we went into the actual casino so he could gamble a bit, WHF's mom and I had a great time watching him gamble and cheering him on.
In all, I really enjoyed today. It was nice to have a family meal with WHF's side that was so enjoyable. So often it's full of anger and resentment. This, well, while I think there could have been some anger and resentment, was really much more pleasant for everyone involved. And I think that was what we all needed. So, next up, Christmas...we'll see how that goes. :)
