Happy Thanksgiving!
So, I know this is kind of late, but Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends!
I had a nice day today. WHF's family and I did something, for many, quite unconventional for Thanksgiving this year. What was it? We had dinner at the casino.
This was my brilliant idea. Since WHF's parents live 2 and a half hours away, his grandmother doesn't need to be cooking or doing dishes, his uncle REALLY doesn't need to be cooking and I wouldn't know what to do with a turkey if you paid me...I decided that going to the casino for dinner was the best option.
Now, this did come with a tiny fight. WHF's grandma (Hi) didn't take to the idea originally. But finally, thanks to the work of WHF and his grandfather (Poppy), dinner at the casino was on. (WHF's mother loved the idea! She was totally on board, claiming she would have spent the same amount on groceries and this meant it was just all done and over with, no fuss.)
Today turned out lovely though. I believe both Hi and Poppy had a great time and really ended up enjoying not having to stress about the day. WHF, his mom, and I all waited in line to get a table and then once the rest of our party showed up, we walked right in, because our time had been up for a while.
It was also great because there was something for everyone. I'm not a big turkey eater, so I ended up having prime rib, WHF had salmon...it was great because everybody really could just get what they wanted and nobody felt obligated to eat something they didn't want just because somebody made it and it would hurt feelings if it wasn't eaten.
I also really enjoyed today because I got to bond a bit with Poppy, something I haven't really ever gotten to do. I helped walk with him into the casino and helped him get his food. Then when we went into the actual casino so he could gamble a bit, WHF's mom and I had a great time watching him gamble and cheering him on.
In all, I really enjoyed today. It was nice to have a family meal with WHF's side that was so enjoyable. So often it's full of anger and resentment. This, well, while I think there could have been some anger and resentment, was really much more pleasant for everyone involved. And I think that was what we all needed. So, next up, Christmas...we'll see how that goes. :)

"Temporary" Kitty
Today was such a weird day.
I got a call this morning from my other job, practically begging me to come in. So, I went. It was a very interesting shoot that I had to go on, involving police officers receiving medals for their heroism. It was a very touching ceremony.
So, it was around 3:00, I called my mom and asked her if I should come in to work. She said for me to do what I wanted. So, I decided to go in since I got my Mousefest packets and wanted to show my mom hers.
I get to work and I hear, meow.
I look around and this cat starts coming out of the bushes. I call my mom and tell her there's a stray cat. She said she knew, try to bring the cat inside, as it's cold out and we don't want her to freeze.
So, I brought her inside. She looked well fed, albeit a little skinny and she was cleanish. I figure, this must be somebody's lost cat. So, I take her to the Animal Hospital down the street...no chip. They told me to take a picture of her and take it down to the Humane Society. But all they do is throw it in a book and that's it.
So, I don't know what to do, but I don't want to take the cat to a shelter or anything. I don't want them to kill it. And I don't want to release it into the wild. But I'm also really not much of a cat person. Plus, my dog and her are apparently at war or something, b/c the dog is terrified after the cat took a nasty swat at the dog for no reason. (And the cat has claws...so it hurt!) So, we'll see...I don't know what will happen if nobody claims her...but for now, I've got a cat. You know, it's weird...I have a cat...all becuase of a mouse(fest)...go fig...lol!

Thanksgiving Craziness
So, I know I've totally been slacking this month, but nothing real exciting has been going on, besides the fact that I got one massive sinus infection this month...whoo! On to the real topic for today.
This year, Thanksgiving will be interesting. It appears, it will be the first year I will not be having Thanksgiving with my side of the family. However, this is completely by choice. My side of the family is going out to visit my grandmother...and let's just say, I didn't really want to do that. I don't enjoy her cooking, I don't enjoy my relatives all that much, and I don't enjoy the long trek it takes to get out to her house.
So, what am I doing this year? Spending my Thanksgiving with WHF's side of the family. Which, some would say is equally as bad. lol!! For me...it sounds like a much better option. Sure, there's the fact that his uncle will be there, more than likely, and will be as rude and crude as normal...but there is one saving grace. This year...we're trying to get WHF's grandma to agree to Thanksgiving at the Casino's buffet.
It couldn't be better! Great food, no one has to cook, and no one has to do dishes! Plus, it will cost roughly the same amount for all of us to go to the buffet as it would to make a full course dinner. Might as well do the buffet and migrate around all the hassle of the other stuff.
The funniest part is when WHF's dad tried to get Hi (WHF's grandma) to do Thanksgiving out, she said, "No...Absolutely not." But when WHF calls, she changes her tune slightly..."Well, it doesn't make me happy, but if you really want to." We all just laughed about it...WHF has this magic power on her that no one else has. So, if we can ware her down, which it appears we are, we can have a great dinner, without hassle...and that's something everyone can look forward to! :)
Of course, then after the big meal, we can all go to someone's house to just relax a bit. And talk, if we wanted to. Oh...and of course, if my BIL and SIL are there, pass the baby! :)

I Did It
Well, I did my patriotic duty today. I officially voted and I feel so good about it. (And no, it isn't the free coffee from Starbucks I'm drinking that's making me feel good. lol!) It's strange how something like voting can make you feel good about yourself. No matter whether the person I voted for wins, (although, of course, I hope that they do) I let my voice be heard and there's something very liberating about that. And knowing I let my voice be heard in what many are calling a historic election is special in it's own right. Guess we'll see tonight what happens.

Casey's 21st Birthday!!!
Yesterday, my baby brother turned 21. Nothing like making you feel old then your little bro becoming legal in almost every sense of the word! Now, he's no longer a little kid, but an "adult" (I used that term loosely).
We had a good day yesterday though. First things first, we went to this divey bar that has the best food! (This place has the most amazing french fries! Oh and cheap food too! Peel and Eat Shrimp for 29 cents each!) You have to be 21 to get in...so it's a big hot spot to go to on your 21st birthday. I think he enjoyed himself there though. He had quite a few drinks...but nothing really out of control.
Then we went to the casino and watched him gamble for the first time. His face just was full of wonderment when we walked in though. His eyes were all lit up!
It must have been a funny sight. 10 people gathered around 1 person watching him waste all his money! He realized that he didn't like gambling though. It wasn't as fun as he thought it was gonna be...you know, loosing money. :) That look of wonderment disappeared quickly! lol!
I hope he had a good birthday. He really seemed to be enjoying himself.
So, Happy 21st buddy! :) Love you!
